Blue Dhalia: Monochromatic Hues & Shimmery Separates
Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching. Maybe you’re celebrating with your beau for a romantic night out or ditching Cupid to hang out with your girlfriends and see 50 Shades. Blame my cynicism (or a few ex-boyfriends), but I’ve never been one for the candy hearts holiday, though I will gladly binge on a heart-shaped box of chocolates, especially Godiva. Whether Valentine’s Day makes you feel a little blue or you’re looking for an alternative take on a V-Day date night look, we’ve got one for you, combining film noir and modern glam with a blue twist.
Matching (or co-ord) sets have been trending for some time now for the versatility of each separate. Wear them together or apart, each set offers you at least three different looks. This set by Bar III with its pencil skirt and boxy crop top gives off a retro vibe with a modern appeal in its metallic, foil-like fabric. To add a dose of femme fatale, I paired this set with a faux fur jacket from Forever 21 in navy for a monochromatic emphasis. Since all of these pieces are very glamorous and luxe in look, I wanted to keep my accessories minimal. The co-ord is jewelry in its own right after all.
My Baublebar celestial drops in hematite were the perfect accent to the matching set, a great metal to pair with cool hues. I chose simple black pumps with an edgy lucite heel by Rock & Republic for Kohl’s and finished with my Chanel boy bag-esque Papaya shoulder bag and Prada wayfarers.
After V-Day is over, you can pair the crop top with some black hi-rise jeggings, boots, a statement necklace, and moto jacket for a downtown cool feel, or glam up your work day with the skirt, pairing it with a black chiffon bow blouse, metallic oxfords, and wide-frame glasses.
