Dapper in the Details Menswear Styling

This Toddland golden-yellow cardigan accented the gold and black diamond print of this military-green button-up. The embroidered mustache gives the cardigan some flair.

So I've promised some posts featuring menswear since I started Stitch & Strut and now one is finally here! Introducing the first in our series of Menswear Monday. My boyfriend and I switched places around the camera for this shoot, with him acting as model and me as photographer.

To start with some background, my boyfriend's style was a battleground between the two of us for quite some time. Yes, I'll admit it. I was that pushy girlfriend who tried to "steer" my boyfriend toward more fashionable choices that ventured outside his usual broken-in skinny jeans and vast array of graphic tees storying his love for Star Wars, superheroes and video games. I'd pick out things online and in stores, which he would quickly reject. But not too long ago, he started developing a style all his own, one that's both dapper gentleman and affordable, perfect for Stitch & Strut's Menswear Mondays. His collection of graphic tees has been replaced by collared shirts and cardigans, his skinny jeans replaced by chinos. His shoe collection now rivals my own, filled with brogues, spectators and edgy, cool sneakers.

These Target pencil socks are a great way to add a dash of flair to an outfit and make for a great conversation piece. These classic black vans can be dressed both up and down.

This week's take on the dapper gentleman is still casually cool with an emphasis on details. It's also super affordable for those men looking to amp up their wardrobe on a budget. Fonzi wears a military-green button-up with a black and gold diamond pattern from Target ($24.99). Layering is key in Fonzi's wardrobe, and cardigans are his favorite. For this look, he accented the gold in the collared shirt's print with a heather golden-mustard cardigan by Toddland, purchased off Amazon. He paired this with khaki chinos from H&M and black and tan Authentic Vans ($45). His pencil-print socks, also from Target, offer a sweet detail to give this look more depth. Socks are a great way to have fun with menswear and also to add color to an outfit. Both Target and stores like Urban Outfitters offer many funky options like this.

For his accessories, Fonzi wore his Gant circular glasses and Fossil watch.
